Chelsea U23 starting right back, Henry Lawrence, will put pen to paper and sign a new three-year contract in the coming days, according to Nizaar Kinsella.

After already losing one talented right back in Tariq Lamptey last season, the club have made extra effort to ensure that Henry stays with the Blues past 2022, when his current contract expires.

The 19-year-old, who’s one of the more senior members in Chelsea’s development team, was widely expected to go out on loan in the summer, but he surprisingly stayed put, and will now form an integral part of the side’s quest to retain the PL2 trophy while also win the EFL trophy. He’s also eligible to take part in the extended 2019-20 season of the FA Youth Cup, with Chelsea U18 set to take on Manchester United U18 in the semi-finals tomorrow.

Lawrence is one of the more versatile players in the system, with the England U20 international making 57 appearances in the youth levels across various positions like right back, left back, centre back, left wing, right wing, defensive midfield and central midfield.

With César Azpilicueta on the other side of 30 now, it could be the perfect time for young Henry to stake a claim in the next few years.
