Official: Danny Drinkwater joins Aston Villa on loan from Chelsea

Another chance

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has not found any luck in his six-month stint at Burnley this season, although he did make it much harder to find it after the off-pitch incidents. Nevertheless, he has been granted another chance to shine as he has joined Premier League outfit Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the 2019-20 season.

Drinkwater was the main partner of N’Golo Kanté in Leicester City’s midfield when the duo won the Premier League title in the 2015-16 season. That was surely one of several reasons behind Chelsea’s efforts to sign him in summer 2017 for £35 million.

Unfortunately the midfielder has not been able to justify his transfer fee ever since his arrival at the club. After a debut season where he made 22 appearances for Chelsea, his participation in the following year diminished to one single 30-minute cameo in our 2-0 Community Shield loss to Manchester City.

The loan to Burnley could have worked as a rehabilitation for Drinkwater, who still had some value in the PL. And while that was not meant to be, maybe the winds will blow in his favour now at Villa Park.

Best of luck, Danny!
