After a bit of home comforts in the third round, Chelsea will travel north for the fourth round of the FA Cup, having been drawn away against Hull City by tonight’s swirling balls of fate.
Chelsea comfortably beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, while Hull City, who are just a few places below Forest in the Championship table at the moment, needed a stoppage time winner from hat-trick hero Tom Eaves to squeak past third division Rotherham United.
Last time we met the Tigers was also in the FA Cup, in the fifth round two seasons ago, when a Willian brace keyed a four-goal first half in an easy 4-0 win at the Bridge. Pedro and Olivier Giroud also scored, though there is a chance neither of those two will be here by the time this match takes place at the end of this month (January 25-26).
We have won seven in a row against the former Premier League hangers-on in all competitions since a 1-1 draw in 2010, and have not lost since 1988 when both teams were in the second division.
The FA Cup 4th round draw in full is as follows:
Watford OR Tranmere Rovers vs. Wolves OR Manchester Utd
Hull City vs. CHELSEA
Southampton vs. Middlesbrough OR Spurs
QPR vs. Sheffield Wednesday
Bournemouth vs. Arsenal OR Leeds United
Northampton Town vs. Derby County
Brentford vs. Leicester City
Millwall vs. Sheffield United
Reading OR Blackpool vs. Cardiff City OR Carlisle United
West Ham vs. West Brom
Burnley vs. Norwich City
Bristol Rovers OR Coventry City vs. Birmingham City
Manchester City vs. Fulham
Rochdale OR Newcastle vs. Oxford United
Portsmouth vs. Barnsley
Bristol City OR Strawberry Town vs. Liverpool
Northampton Town and potentially Carlisle United are the lowest remaining seeds, both from the fourth division.
