After four Premier League games in just eleven days, Chelsea get a bit of a breather this weekend and an opportunity to rotate against Championship promotion contenders Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup third round, a rematch of last year’s FA Cup third round as fate would hate it.
Forest are good enough that we cannot take this game for granted by any means — similar to last year’s game that Chelsea won 2-0 — but there are plenty of players, both young and old, on the fringes of the first-team who haven’t had much playing time lately and could thus be in line for a runout. Perhaps someone will emerge just as Callum Hudson-Odoi did in last year’s edition?
The only injury concern we know of is Marcos Alonso’s, which could keep him out once again. Both Reece James and Christian Pulisic returned midweek. Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori are both listed with mystery injuries on PhysioRoom, for what it’s worth.
