‘We feel like we lost the game’

Jorginho blames the small details

Another gut-punch of a result last night as Chelsea scored a late goal, then gave up an even later goal to drop two points against 10-man Arsenal. It’s become a bit of a habit, unfortunately, with few leads if any feeling comfortable these days — and that’s if we can get a lead in the first place.

Jorginho did get the Blues going on the scoreboard last night, converting yet again with consummate ease from he penalty spot, but not only did Chelsea fail to take advantage of David Luiz’s red card, but allowed Arsenal to get back into the game, eventually giving up any advantage with lapses of concentration.

One such lapse was Jorginho turning his back on Hector Bellerin’s equalizing goal. But that’s just one very small detail amid all the other slightly bigger small details — on that goal as well as the rest of the match — that, added up, blessed us with this latest turd of a result.

“We feel like we lost the game. We had the game in our hands then in the last second conceded a goal when we shouldn’t. It’s hard. We need to move forward.

“I don’t think it’s confidence because we played well and were controlling the game. Something about concentration maybe. In these kind of games, you lose in moments. We made mistakes. That is it.

“These big games are like these. You can win and lose the game in the details.”

The question then becomes, how do we improve the team’s concentration?

Unfortunately, that’s not an easy question to answer.
