Chelsea’s maddeningly inconsistent results took yet another sharp turn with Saturday’s frustrating 1-0 loss to Newcastle. Last time a similar result happened, we followed it up with a come-from-behind win at the Emirates. We could do with a similar result on Tuesday as well, maybe without the extra heartache of having to come back, even.
Our task will be made all that harder by the (expected) absence of Reece James. Maybe Tariq Lamptey can once again make the telling difference, just as he did on his professional debut last month? James was forced with an apparent leg (knee?) injury on Saturday, and so far it’s been rather quiet from Cobham about any sort of prognosis, which isn’t exactly a good sign.
Marcos Alonso and Christian Pulisic are also expected to miss out. There’s no word on Alonso’s recovery (or future prospects in general) either, while Pulisic isn’t likely to return until after the winter break in early February.
