Tariq Lamptey has burst onto the scene in the past few weeks as the latest prospect of great potential from the Chelsea Academy, but no sooner had he announced himself than we realized that his contract was expiring at the end of the season.

With Chelsea feverishly working on an extension and the 19-year-old turning heads on the pitch, fortunately we haven’t had to wait for too for some progress, at least if The Athletic’s Dom Fifield, formerly a trusted Chelsea voice at The Guardian, is to be believed.

In their latest “non-rumor” rumor column, Fifield reports that Lamptey has agreed a new “long-term” contract with the club. There’s scant little detail beyond that, but that’s certainly good news.

As we’ve seen with other contract extension in the past year, sometimes there’s a bit of a delay between agreements, signatures, and announcements, but it sounds like we can rest assured that Lamptey isn’t going abscond to OGC Nice or wherever else. (Unless he’s going on loan.)
