Hmmm...

Danny Drinkwater’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year (and more!) continues apace with a mysterious injury reportedly ruling him out for the next six weeks.

Details are rather vague, if not entirely non-existent, but all sources agree that it happened “away from the training ground”. The Mail speculate that it might involve some sort of “assault” on Danny himself, which sounds concerning, regardless of what circumstance it might involve or what specific form it might have taken.

The Chelsea loanee had recently made his full Burnley debut, with mixed results, in what was his first competitive start since March 2018. This setback now means that he won’t feature again until at least mid-October.

Drinkwater joined Burnley on loan last month, with Chelsea subsidizing his wages to help make that happen, but initially only until January. That makes any amount of missed time twice as bad as he attempts to restart his career that stalled so badly since joining the Blues in 2017.

Get well soon, Danny!
