Chelsea advanced easily into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup earlier tonight, with an emphatic 7-1 thumping of fourth division Grimsby Town at Stamford Bridge. It was truly an Academy Day from Lampard & Co, with four starting and two more joining as substitutes, many playing key parts in the goalfest.
More importantly, Chelsea avoided the fate of several fellow Premier League sides, including most hilariously, Spurs, and thus were into the fourth round, the draw for which was conducted after all the games finished on Wednesday night.
One of the last ones to finish was Manchester United’s penalty shootout victory over lowly Rochdale, and as it turns out, we will face them next! Last time we played the Red Devils in the League Cup was back in 2012, with Roberto Di Matteo’s Blues winning 5-4 in a ridiculous and fun match. We could be in for another goalfest!
The match will take place at Stamford Bridge on either Tuesday, October 29 or Wednesday, October 30, in between trips to Burnley and Watford in the Premier League.
The Carabao Cup fourth round draw, in full, with quite a few juicy ties, including the two remaining fourth division sides drawn against each other, is as follows:
Everton vs. Watford
Manchester City vs. Southampton
Crawley Town vs. Colchester United
Oxford United vs. Sunderland
Aston Villa vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
Burton Albion vs. Leicester City
CHELSEA vs. Manchester United
Liverpool vs. Arsenal
