Young Chelsea defender Marc Guehi has made a mark in the team’s youth squads since the 2016-17 season, being an integral part of Chelsea’s two FA Youth Cup and youth league titles ever since. His skills from the centre-back position have been carried out to the national level, as he went on to lift the Under-17 World Cup title with the English Team in 2017.
And today, his efforts have been rewarded. He put pen to paper on a new three-year contract, two years after signing his first professional deal — which was set to end in June next year.

This season, Guehi’s importance only grew as he became the U23’s captain. His happiness comes not just from signing a new deal, but also from being a leader of a group that has remained unbeaten five matches into the season.
“I’m really excited and happy to sign a new contract and extend my stay at the club. I can now focus completely on my football and try to better myself every day.
“I’ll continue trying to do the best I can and make an impression when I’m playing. Having the captain’s armband with the development squad gives me that extra bit of responsibility and allows me to show my leadership qualities.”
The next logical step for him is to get the attention of manager Frank Lampard and perhaps earn a chance in the first-team. He already had the chance to work with Lamps during preseason, acting for 45 minutes during our match against Bohemians in Ireland. And he is eager to push for more, taking inspiration from some of the players who took the jump from the Academy to the main squad.
“Seeing how Frank Lampard has given the younger boys chances is really inspiring for me and gives me that motivation to push even more.
“Players like Andreas Christensen and Fikayo Tomori have broken through as defenders in the last few seasons and that really motivates me, as well as someone like Billy Gilmour who I know very well.
“It’s an amazing achievement for him - hopefully myself and many other players get the opportunity to play for Chelsea as well.”
