Brighton ‘interested’ in Drinkwater loan; no really, it says so right here in the Mail!

STOP THE PRESSES

No, I’m not making this up. The Mail might be making it up. But let’s assume they are not.

They say that Brighton & Hove Albion “want” to take Danny Drinkwater on loan from Chelsea for the season. No, really. It says so right here:

Despite a £35m investment, Drinkwater has been barely hanging on to the fringes of the Chelsea first-team for well over twelve months at this point. He didn’t feature last year after a few minutes in the Community Shield, and this year, he has recently stopped featuring even in the preseason friendlies. He was left back at Cobham for both the Salzburg and the Borussia Mönchengladbach games.

With three years left on his sizable Chelsea contract, he’s practically an immovable asset. But a loan move, presumably with a wage subsidy from the club, is not out of the realm of possibilities. Brighton finished just outside the relegation zone last year, and could certainly use an experienced, if rather average Premier League quality midfielder.

Let’s get this done!
