Despite a bit of an injury crisis, Chelsea will look to secure their next 3 points when they host newly promoted Sheffield United on game day four. Frank Lampard’s options are limited, but the Chelsea legend will nevertheless look to continue the good vibe which the Blues’ win against Norwich City evoked.
THE PREDICTED LINEUP
Chelsea haven’t been able to keep a clean sheet yet this season and Kepa Arrizabalaga will be desperate to finally do exactly that when starting once again.
In defense, it’s almost a certainty that Lampard will continue to rely on a back four consisting of Emerson, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta. While this combination hasn’t necessarily convinced entirely, especially due to the worrying amount of goals we’ve conceded, it will do the trick.
Provided Chelsea line up with a 3 man midfield again, I can see a composition of Jorginho, Ross Barkley, and Mateo Kovačić starting in the middle of the park. N’golo Kanté’s injury is certainly a concern, but we should be capable of winning with these 3 even without our midfield talisman.
Due to Pedro’s injury, the next chance to test Mason Mount on the wing is here and he did well out of position against Norwich. He’ll support Tammy Abraham and Christian Pulisic up front, though there’s a slight possibility that Willian might be called upon.
4-3-3
Arrizabalaga | Emerson, Zouma, Christensen, Azpilicueta (c) | Jorginho, Kovačić, Barkley | Pulisic, Abraham, Mount
THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE
The WAGNH community made all the obvious choices here as this is arguably the best starting eleven we have to our disposal. The back four dominated the votes as no other defender was able to receive more than 12%. Similarly, Olivier Giroud (14%) and Michy Batshuayi (13%) weren’t able to trouble Abraham after the latter’s two goal display at the weekend.
4-2-3-1 (50%)
Arrizabalaga (97%) | Emerson (91%), Zouma (84%), Christensen (95%), Azpilicueta (97%) | Jorginho (96%), Kovačić (97%) | Pulisic (98%), Barkley (75%), Mount (53%) | Abraham (89%)
MY PREFERRED LINEUP
I’m absolutely on board with the community’s choices this time, though I’d prefer Frank Lampard to set up the team in a 4-3-3 formation. Otherwise, and given the circumstances of the injuries, this is the best lineup we can field against Sheffield United.
4-3-3
Arrizabalaga | Emerson, Zouma, Christensen, Azpilicueta (c) | Jorginho, Kovačić, Barkley | Pulisic, Abraham, Mount
COME ON, YOU BLUES!!!
