According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are planning to offer Ashley Cole a coaching role at Stamford Bridge, after the legendary left back announced his retirement from playing yesterday.
It’s a report that surely surprises no one, given Cole’s already existing relationship with Lampard, having played for him at Derby last season, as well as Chelsea already helping him study for his UEFA coaching badges. In his announcement, Cole made it clear that he wants to go into coaching as the “next chapter”, so we might as well make his wish come true.
Chelsea have filled the club’s coaching ranks practically from top to bottom with former players, especially this season, and Ash would fit right in with that habit. We’ll have to wait and see whether he’d go straight into the first-team, or like most others, start in the academy ranks and work his way up — assuming this report is true of course. Either way, it’ll be nice to have Ash back at Chelsea.
