Antonio Rüdiger is getting close to full fitness and will get to test the newly repaired meniscus in his knee, as he’s set to make an appearance for the Chelsea Development Squad in tonight’s match against Liverpool U23 in the PL2.
The match will be held at Stamford Bridge (ticket info, with free concessions) and will be live on Chelsea TV / App as well. Kick-off is scheduled for 19.00 local time (2pm EDT).
Toni stopped by for a brief chat with Chelsea TV after last night’s game (alongside the NBA’s Josh Hart, who’s apparently a big Chelsea fan), and confirmed the good news.
“I know I need to be patient. There is no need to rush anything because as we all know we have a long season to go. I am happy because I am going to have some minutes with the Under-23s against Liverpool. I’m very pleased with that.”

Chelsea have two games in the next two weeks, before the international break at the start of September. The season truly begins afterwards, with games coming every 3-4 days, as is standard. Rüdiger looks on track to be ready by then, which is great news.
In related news, Michy Batshuayi, who’s yet to play this season, is expected to feature in tonight’s PL2 match as well, giving us another good reason to watch.
