Callum Hudson-Odoi is continuing make good progress in his recovery from an Achilles tendon injury back at Cobham, and the hopeful expectation remains that he will return to full training by next month and match action by mid-September at the latest, after the first international break.
So while that’s all good news, the progress we’re all really waiting to see and hear is regarding his contract, which is now into its final year. As long as the long-term extension remains unsigned, the specter of Bayern Munich hangs over the whole thing like a dark cloud. Fortunately, we have a shining light of our own to deploy, and his name is Frank Lampard.
Lampard recently revealed that he wants to sit down — or has already sat down? — with the 18-year-old and sell him on the idea being the center piece to Chelsea’s great future, and according to the BBC, that has “encouraged” the young man. He’s apparently hopeful over the new contract, that is if we’re ready to conduct formal talks over the five-year, £100k per week offer that’s on the table.
Now that Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed, the only question thus remains, well, what are we waiting for?
