WATCH: Ruben Loftus-Cheek is walking again!

Progress!

As some around the world celebrate their Independence Day, Ruben Loftus-Cheek today celebrates independence from his leg brace, as he revealed on his social media with a post showing him walking gingerly around the weight room (first time since May!) and “struggling” to push 5kg in the leg press machine.

Progress!

Loftus-Cheek suffered a nasty Achilles injury in the charity game against New England Revolution ahead of Chelsea’s Europa League final, and further testing revealed it to be more severe than the one suffered by Callum Hudson-Odoi a few weeks prior. So while the younger player is expected to be back by September, Ruben is still looking at a very long road ahead. Most reports do not expect him back until the turn of the year, barring some sort of miraculous recovery.

Hopefully the progress shown today means that he’s at least on track. It’s undoubtedly encouraging to see him walk around freely without any help — especially with the announcement of his new five-year contract happening sometime soon as well.

Keep up the good work, Ruben!
