Chelsea’s Charly Musonda doubtful for Vitesse opener due to continuing knee concerns

Just can’t catch a break

Pre-Season Friendly”Vitesse Arnhem v Sivasspor (tur)”

After an entire season lost to injury (bar one 15-minute cameo in late spring), Charly Musonda is hoping to get back on track this season. He rejoined Vitesse on loan at the start of the summer, and has by all account been putting in the hard miles.

Unfortunately last week, Musonda’s knee did not react well after playing 45 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Sivasspor and he’s been kept out of first-team training since and missed Sunday’s friendly against Bayer Leverkusen completely.

Afterwards, Vitesse head coach Leonid Slutsky express concern of Charly’s status for the season opener this week, when defending champions Ajax Amsterdam come to town.

“After the game against Sivasspor everything seemed fine, but he got a stiff knee the next day. Therefore he automatically became frightened and he stepped out during the training.

“His injury is very unpredictable. If you ask me if he is ready for the match against Ajax, I sincerely do not know that.”

Obviously, Musonda’s status could very well be precautionary. After a year without competitive action, it’s only understandable that the knee would react more so than normal. So hopefully, it’s nothing serious for the 22-year-old.

Stay strong, Charly!
