Frank Lampard’s hoping that Callum Hudson-Odoi’s contract extension will be confirmed soon following the latest round of positive talks, which led to plenty of media reports last week about an agreement.
#ChelseaTV “@Calteck10 also of course back in the fold and we wish him a speedy recovery, great to see he’s signed a new long-term contract, that’s something the fans will love to see” #cfc

Some of those reports may have even prompted the Chelsea TV announcers during the Reading friendly to claim that Hudson-Odoi has actually signed the new contract, but as Lampard confirmed afterwards, it’s not quite a done deal. It’s close, but no cigar yet.
“I think agreed would mean signed so we’re not quite there but what’s very clear is the club are working towards that. Talks moved on very well in the last week or two but it’s not done yet.
“The one thing that’s clear to me is I want to keep him here. He’s a player we cherish. Players who come through the academy are the present and the future of the club so we’re doing everything we can to get there. I hope it’s news to be confirmed soon.”

Whatever minor issues are holding up the deal and the announcement at this point — be that shirt numbers, bonuses, or whatever — will surely be ironed out soon.
