A second chance

Michy Batshuayi, who has spent the last season and a half on loan at three different teams in three different leagues in three different countries, is set to try his luck at Chelsea once again. According to Goal's Chelsea correspondent, Nizaar Kinsella, Batshuayi will stay at Chelsea for the upcoming season in a bid to restart his Chelsea career.

Last season, Batshuayi endured a rough six months at Valencia where he scored only 1 goal in 15 league appearances (mostly from the bench) which also included a public bashing by Valencia manager. Then, he was loaned out to Crystal Palace for the second half of the season where he scored 5 goals in 11 Premier League appearances and found some of the purple patch of form we saw from him when on loan at Borussia Dortmund the year before.

With Maurizio Sarri in charge, Batshuayi’s chances of staying at Chelsea seemed far fetched. But with the appointment of Frank Lampard and the transfer ban, that possibility seems to be becoming more of a reality and hopefully the Batsman will take to this opportunity just as keenly as he takes to social media. Chelsea do have an excess on non-homegrown players, but others like Tiémoué Bakayoko or Kenedy seem more likely to fall victim to that rule with moves away from the club.

Given Álvaro Morata's departure, Olivier Giroud’s advancing age, and Tammy Abraham’s youth, there is a huge opportunity for someone to step up and claim the starting spot at center forward. Batshuayi certainly won’t ever get a better chance at Chelsea to do so.
