Christian Pulisic is expected to join his new Chelsea teammates for preseason on Tuesday, at the start of the team’s tour of Japan.
To take advantage of the hype, Gaffer magazine, a relatively new publication profiling football and culture, recently spoke with Pulisic about his move. Considering the timing of the promotional images and Pulisic’s recent availability, this likely took place at some point between the end of his time with Dortmund this past season and before the start of his international duty with team USA.

For the past month, he had been with the USA men’s team for the Gold Cup. A week has lapsed since that final, and now Pulisic is ready to get to work with his new club, much to the delight of Frank Lampard, his new manager.
“When I think of this club, there’s a lot of great players that come to mind; I grew up watching Frank Lampard and all of them guys at the top of their game in the Premier League and in the Champions League. To me, Chelsea were always one of the biggest teams and now to be playing here it’s really come full circle from that moment. It feels amazing.”
While there is a transfer ban looming over Chelsea for this summer’s transfer window and the upcoming winter window, Pulisic is saying all the right things. Furthermore, Pulisic is going about his business in a most professional manner to put himself in the best position to be a contributing member for the upcoming season.
Much can be debated whether Pulisic’s lack of sufficient rest this summer schedule will adversely affect his start with Chelsea. However, his attitude and mental approach should be commended. He’s anxious for his new beginnings. For a club that seems to be in transition with the loss of Hazard and a managerial change, having talented personnel who actually want to be here and find success with the club is exactly what we need.
“I just want to get started. It’s going to be a huge change but I have people around me that are going to be there for me and to support me, so I’m just super excited for a new challenge and a new chapter in my life. I know it’s going to but tough but I also know it’s going to be a lot fun.
“I think I have a lot of speed and creativity that I can bring to the game; quickness and different attacking abilities that can really help the team. I think I have some tools that can really do well in this league. I just can’t wait.”
