Tiemoue Bakayoko’s season-long loan at AC Milan certainly had its ups and downs, but it ended on a down-note, just as it began. Milan finished fifth and missed out on the Champions League. Gattuso resigned. Bakayoko’s buy-option was not redeemed.

And so, the 24-year-old midfielder is on his way back to Chelsea, twelve months after heading out to try to resurrect his career after a disastrous first year at Stamford Bridge in 2017-18. In fairness, despite all the drama and controversy on and off the pitch, he’s largely accomplished that. For many months he was one of the first names on Rossoneri teamsheets.

The bards used to sign, albeit briefly, about Bakayoko, together with N’Golo, never giving the ball away. Could that be the case once again in the future? According to Tiemoue’s brother and agent, it just might be.

“There are some pretty interesting, quite big clubs that have inquired, but we give priority to Chelsea. We already know there is the Champions League and we are looking for stability. Tiémoué has decided to stay there.”

Bakayoko has three years left on his Chelsea contract. His time in Blue may be far from over.
