It’s taken a while for Emerson to truly settle at Chelsea after his arrival 18 months ago, but he, like the club, ended the season on a very strong note and is now looking to build on that.
While he’s been linked with a return to Italy in every transfer window since his arrival, Itner Milan and, lately, Juventus especially, the 24-year-old now sees no reason to leave.
“Every time the transfer window opens, many things are speculated. But I have always made it clear that my intention is to stay at Chelsea. I have a contract until [June] 2022. I am happy here, especially after winning an important title such as the Europa League. I have no reasons to leave the club. I want to win more titles with this shirt.”
Finishing the year as the first-choice left back and winning a first trophy (at club level) to boot will likely prevent Emerson from returning to the boot anytime soon. The Brazil-born Italian international believes he’s in the best moment of his career; hopefully things will only get better from here on out.
“To summarise, it was a good season. I believe I could have played more often, but the important thing is that every time I was on the pitch, I did my job and I left a good impression.”
“To finish the season as a starter and give the assist to the [first] goal in the [Europa League] final is something very special to me. I think I am in my best phase. My current moment is very positive.”
