Another one!

Chelsea have added a fourth confirmed preseason friendly to the summer schedule, against nearby Reading FC, where Lewis Baker and Matt Miazga just spent part of the season and former Chelsea prospect Jon Swift is still on the books. The match will take place at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday, July 28 with a 3pm kick-off.

This match will slot in between Chelsea trip to Japan, and the recently confirmed friendly against RB Salzburg in Austria. When that was announced, we had been wondering if that was part of a larger training camp effort in Austria, but a friendly the weekend before in England would seem to indicate that it’s more of a one-off engagement in Salzburg.

Chelsea last played Reading in a competitive fixture in the 2012-13 season, battling to a 2-2 draw at the Madejski in January, when the mood was even sourer than at the lowest ebb of Sarri-ball. Frank Lampard scored one.

This occasion will presumably be much happier, under Frank Lampard Head Coach To Be Named Later.

The schedule so far for the summer is as follows:

July 19 vs. Kawasaki Frontale, in Yokohama, Japan
July 23 vs. FC Barcelona, in Saitama, Japan
July 28 vs. Reading FC, in Reading, England
July 31 vs. RB Salzburg, in Salzburg, Austria
