It’s probably happening

Welcome to the final week of the football fiscal year.

Welcome to the last week of the first half of the calendar year.

Welcome to the first week of the Frank Lampard Era, glory be thy name?

Chelsea legend and all-time leading goalscorer, the greatest Premier League midfielder ever is expected to be appointed the head coach this week at Chelsea.

Some say it will be within 48 hours. But you know how these timeline reports go. They’re valid until they’re not, and then it’s another 24 hours, or another 48, and then it’s by the end of the week, and so on and so forth. But eventually it will happen. Probably.

It wasn’t going to happen last week since Lampard had the temerity to take vacation to celebrate his 41st birthday and spend time with his family after a long and grueling club season in Derby. How dare he! Lampard in FAMILY holidays over Chelsea SHOCKER as commitment QUESTIONED.

We’ve got time, though not too much. There are seven weeks to go until the start of the new Premier League season. Ideal pre-season length is about 5-6 weeks (i.e. starting either July 1 or July 8).

Lampard should be bringing assistant coaches Jody Morris and Chris Jones, both ex-Chelsea, with him, as well as a couple other key figures from his staff at Derby such as an analyst or a goalkeeper coach (Shay Given) to work with Hilário & Co.

And if it’s not this week, it’s next week. Or the week after that? Or we’re bringing Benítez back.

Let’s hope it’s this week.
