Should happen

Lifeline

Thomas Tuchel is ready to offer Renato Sanchez the chance to end his Bayern Munich nightmare by offering him a contract as PSG, according to L’Equipe. The 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact since joining Bayern and was loaned out to Swansea in 2017, but Tuchel is ready to make him his next signing as a replacement for Adrien Rabiot.

Ouch

Antonio Conte has reiterated that Mauro Icardi will not be a part of his plans at Inter next season, as reported by Corriere dello Sport. The new manager reportedly spoke with Icardi’s agent Wanda Nara and confirmed that the former club captain, who was cold-shouldered by the club during the final two months of last season, will not feature at San Siro next term.

Hysaj to Atletico

Napoli right-back Elseid Hysaj is set to join Atletico Madrid for €20m, despite President Aurelio De Laurentiis claiming he wanted €25m. According to La Repubblica and La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Azzurri will sell the Albania international to the Rojiblancos for €20m, less than the original asking price.

Battle

Both Roma and Milan will meet with representatives of Fiorentina midfielder Jordan Veretout ahead of a potential €25m move. According to Sportitalia expert Alfredo Pedullà, agent Mario Giuffredi will meet with the Giallorossi first at lunchtime and with the Rossoneri later in the afternoon or evening.

Ceballos to Milan?

The Rossoneri are very keen on taking Ceballos to the San Siro and La Gazzetta reports that sporting director Paolo Maldini is working on a plan. Real value Ceballos at 45-50 million euros, which is a little rich for Milan’s taste, so the former Italy great is hoping that he can use the good relationship between the two clubs to hammer out a two-year loan deal with a purchase option and with Milan picking up the player’s entire salary.

Kessie on the market

Milan have put Franck Kessie on the market and are waiting for offers in the €35-40m region, but he has his heart set on the Premier League. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Kessie is not part of new Coach Marco Giampaolo’s plans, as the tough-tackling midfielder will make way for more creative figures who can pass the ball with greater quality.

One last effort

Newcastle United will make one final attempt to convince Rafael Benitez to sign a new contract this week as it appears increasingly likely he will quit the club. Benitez’s contract will expire on June 30 and he is expected to announce he is leaving St James’ Park after three-and-a-half years as he is unhappy with the personal terms offered and the size of the transfer budget available to him.

Rafa Benitez’s three-year reign at Newcastle will draw to a close this week when his contract runs out next weekend, with no sign of any rapprochement between owner Mike Ashley and his manager. There has been minimal progress in discussions at the end of the season and Benitez is resigned to the fact that his time at the club is over given the longstanding inability to agree on how best to approach in the transfer market.

Holding out

Celtic want at least £25million for Arsenal target Kieran Tierney. The left-back is keen to join Arsenal and test himself in the Premier League but the London club’s opening bid of £15million has been rejected as the Scottish champions hold out for a fee closer to their valuation.

Arsenal have tested the water with a £15m bid for the 22-year-old, which was immediately thrown out, while Everton, Leicester City and Napoli of Serie A are among his many admirers who believe this transfer window will see the left-back leave after years of him turning down lucrative opportunities.

Price set

Arsenal will have to fork out £13.5 million ($17m) to sign Paris Saint-Germain to sign Christopher Nkunku, according to L’Equipe. Former PSG head coach, Unai Emery lodged a bid for the midfielder in January but could not agree a fee for the 21-year-old.

Trying to tie down

Benfica intend to tie in-demand midfielder Florentino Luis to a new contract when he returns for the pre-season programme on July 1 in an effort to stave off interest this summer, but could face fielding bids before they have the opportunity to do so.

Totti’s future

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero wants Francesco Totti to be part of the new makeup of the club. In fact, the president is awaiting the former Roma captain’s response. On the other hand, Totti himself has some doubts due to his strong Roman history. Either way, Ferrero remains optimistic and expects a response within the next two weeks.

China rejected

Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua want a Serie A winger, but Ivan Perisic and Stephan El Shaarawy are inclined to turn them down. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, representatives for Shanghai Shenhua visited Italy this week to propose a big money transfer to the Chinese Super League.
