The return of AVB

Andre Villas-Boas is close to making a return to football as the coach of Marseille. Talks are understood to have taken place with the French club’s director of football Andoni Zubizarreta who is looking for a successor to Rudi Garcia.

Still uncertain

Manchester United are no closer to resolving David de Gea’s future with the goalkeeper still holding off signing a new deal, Sky Sports News understands. De Gea is out of contract next summer and can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January. The Spain international wants assurances that United will compete for major honors and is also keen to bring his wages into line with other top earners at the club, including Alexis Sanchez.

While some at Camp Nou are enthusiastic about the prospect, the leadership are not unanimous about the 28-year-old and feel money could better be spent elsewhere in what is going to be a busy summer. That could leave Griezmann with a big decision to make, and sources have told The Independent that communication has been re-established with United, and a deal is possible. There is also an ongoing link due to his brother’s support for the Premier League club, with his family also influential among his entourage.

Trigger

Inter are reportedly ready to pay the €30m release clause for Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini, but must now convince the player, who is also courted by Manchester United. According to FcInterNews.it, the Nerazzurri have been long-time admirers of the Italy international and are willing to offer him a five-year contract worth €2.7m a year in wages to move this summer.

Sassuolo have officially extended their contracts with Alessandro Matri and Gianluca Pegolo to June 2020. Both had been due to become free agents next month, but will instead be wearing the Neroverdi jersey next season.

The future isn’t clear for Sergio Ramos and the Real Madrid captain is considering his future at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos suffered a forgettable season in 2018/19 and the Spaniard has been left to think about what lies ahead for him, with options opening up. El Chiringuito reported, and MARCA have been able to confirm, that he is seriously weighing things up at the moment, and is thinking about moving on to another European destination. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have enquired about his situation, but until now the answer has always been a firm rejection. But things have now changed and he doesn’t know what’s next for him.

Manchester United have made an offer in excess of €40 million (£35m/$45m) for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, Goal understands. The French striker, who is being followed by several Premier League clubs, has enjoyed a productive first season with the Ligue 1 side, scoring 23 goals in all competitions since his move from Celtic.

Priced out

Romelu Lukaku is worried that a summer move to Inter Milan won’t happen - because Manchester United will price him out of a switch. The Belgian international striker moved to Old Trafford in a £75million deal from Everton in 2017. But he is ready to leave after being told he is surplus to requirements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Inter are closing on Antonio Conte as their new manager, and the Italian is keen to link up with Lukaku - having been blocked from signing him at Chelsea two years ago.
