According to ESPN, former Chelsea midfielder and club legend Mikel John Obi has several offers on the table from Premier League sides, including recently promoted Norwich City and Sheffield United.

Mikel, who left Chelsea in January 2017 to play in the Chinese Super League with Tianjin TEDA, returned to England at the start of the calendar year. He joined Championship side Middlesbrough on a short-term deal for the second-half of the current season and played 18 matches for Tony Pulis in a campaign that missed a promotion playoff spot by just one point.

Having proven himself still quite useful at age 32, the interest in Mikel is not unexpected. He recently was recalled to the Nigeria squad as well, and was included in the 25-man squad announced yesterday for this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations. Mikel had not played for the Super Eagles since last summer’s World Cup. (Also included is Kenneth Omeruo, but Victor Moses remains “retired”.) Mikel is not expected to make a decision regarding his club future until after the ACN final, which is set to played on July 19.

The legendary midfielder may not be up to Chelsea standard anymore, but it would great to see him back in the Premier League, even if as an opponent rather than in his usual position at the base of midfield, defending our cause.
