In the aftermath of the fiasco in Cardiff, where another embarrassing result was only avoided thanks to a most fortunate equalizer at the very end of the match, the calls for Maurizio Sarri to look at Callum Hudson-Odoi as more than just a teenager with major flaws — which might be just as numerous as his veteran counterparts have — reached deafening levels.
And it looks like Sarri has given in to pressure, one that might have come from beyond just the stands.
It’s not clear if Sarri meant that Hudson-Odoi starts today against relegation-threatened Brighton, or on Monday in the local derby against West Ham — both matches taking place at Stamford Bridge. Either way, the 18-year-old is ready to take the Premier League by storm, as Chelsea acting captain César Azpilicueta believes as well.
“I have no doubt he can make an impact in the Premier League.”
“I knew him when he was a kid [in the academy]. To see what he is doing now is amazing. Can he help us in the run-in? Yes, yes, yes. I saw him with England, it was a great performance. To show this ability for someone who is 18 is special.”
