Mason Mount is not the only rising star at Derby County under the tutelage of Frank Lampard and Jody Morris. There is another youngster, another Chelsea loanee who has been doing extremely well, but has flown a bit under the radar.

But Derby County fans have been paying close attention. To signify just how big of a rock Tomori has been at the heart of their defence, they have named him their Supporters' Player of the Season.

Tomori has been ever-present for the Championship promotion contenders, starting 45 games (37 in the Championship, 4 in the FA and EFL cup, each) to lead all Chelsea loanees in minutes played with almost 4000.

This recognition comes not long after Derby head coach Frank Lampard, heaped praise on the youngster.

“His progression this year has been incredible. From when he came in, he was a good young player anyway, but you can see how pivotal he has been in our team. He has grown from within and I’ve enjoyed working with him day to day.

“He wants to learn and improve his game but all the attributes he has, he is using them. There is still a lot more steps in him to go but he was incredible on Saturday against Rotherham. He performed from the first minute until the last and when he plays like that, it’s scary to think how good he can be. He can go to the top if he plays like he did on Saturday and can get better.”

Tomori's impact has meant that you can often hear Derby fans chanting “You’ll never beat Tomori!” from the stands.

Here's hoping that those chants are soon heard at Stamford Bridge from Chelsea fans as well.
