Hudson-Odoi earns first call-up to England U21 squad

One step away from the biggest stage!

We often forget just how young Callum Hudson-Odoi really is given his boundless talent and extreme attention he’s attracting from both the fans and other teams, so this upcoming international break is perhaps a good reminder to keep expectations in check just a little bit for the 18-year-old. After all, at the international level, he had not been called upon above the U19 level before.

But the past tense is correct one to use in that case, because Hudson-Odoi just earned his maiden call to England U21 team! Congrats, Callum!

Obviously Hudson-Odoi is not the only Chelsea talent called up by coach Aidy Boothroyd. His list also includes Chelsea loanees Fikayo Tomori (at Derby County), Jake Clarke-Salter (at Vitesse), Jay Dasilva (at Bristol City) and Tammy Abraham (at Aston Villa).

The full squad is as follows:

GOALKEEPERS: Freddie Woodman (Newcastle United), Angus Gunn (Southampton), Dean Henderson (Sheffield United, on loan from Manchester United);

DEFENDERS: Jake Clarke-Salter (Vitesse, on loan from Chelsea), Jay Dasilva (Bristol City, on loan from Chelsea), Dael Fry (Middlesbrough), Lloyd Kelly (Bristol City), Jonjoe Kenny (Everton), Ezri Konsa (Brentford), Fikayo Tomori (Derby County, on loan from Chelsea), Kyle Walker-Peters (Tottenham Hotspur), Aaron Wan-Bissaka (Crystal Palace);

MIDFIELDERS: Harvey Barnes (Leicester City), Hamza Choudhury (Leicester City), Tom Davies (Everton), Kieran Dowell (Sheffield United, on loan from Everton), Phil Foden (Manchester City), James Maddison (Leicester City), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham);

FORWARDS: Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa, on loan from Chelsea), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Demarai Gray (Leicester City), Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea), Ademola Lookman (Everton), Reiss Nelson (Hoffenheim, on loan from Arsenal), Dominic Solanke (AFC Bournemouth).

England U21 will take on Poland and Germany in couple friendlies during this international break, as they prepare for the European Championships later this year.

Good luck, boys!
