Chelsea vs. Manchester City, Player Ratings: Man of the Match Kanté here, there, everywhere

Community player ratings as Chelsea fall just short in the 2019 League Cup final, losing on penalties

1. N’GOLO KANTÉ (8.6)

Minutes: 120
Touches: 62
Passes: 22/32
Shots: 0/1
Take-ons: 2/3
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 8+1+5
Clearances: 3

Is it any surprise that in a more defensive gameplan, we saw the full glory of N’Golo Kanté, and then, as Chelsea slowly shifted to the front-foot, we also saw the new glory of N’Golo Kanté? No, none of that is surprising because Kanté is Kanté (if only that shot was kept just a little lower...). Also, he really should’ve gotten Zinchenko sent off early on, but Jon Moss was just getting started with his day of horrible refereeing as usual.

2. EDEN HAZARD (8.2)

Minutes: 120
Touches: 75
Passes: 31/40
Shots: 0/2
Take-ons: 8/8
Fouls drawn: 6

There’s an idea that Hazard saves his best for the biggest games. This one comes close to fitting that narrative, despite often being isolated 1-v-many.

3. EMERSON (7.6)

Minutes: 120
Touches: 86
Passes: 45/51
Take-ons: 1/2
Fouls drawn: 2
Tackles+Blocks: 10+2
Clearances: 4

Emerson continues to be not-Alonso.
