Morning has broken, but the blackbird has not spoken. In fact, it’s all rather quiet in Cobham, with Maurizio Sarri seemingly safe enough (outside of media speculation) in his job as Chelsea head coach.
Despite a 5th loss in the last 10 games in all competitions last night (and 8th in 23, with just 13 wins), Sarri still has a won 64 per cent of his competitive matches in charge of Chelsea (27 of 42), which is still one of the best percentages of any Chelsea manager in history (Mourinho was at 67% and 59% in his two tenures; Conte was at 65%, Ancelotti 61%, Hiddink at 74% the first time around, etc.)
But at the same time, the football’s been dire and is showing little to no improvement. The losses have almost all been fairly embarrassing (and some especially historic, like the 6-0 demolition by Manchester City), and Sarri’s alienating more and more fans in near-record times. Surely, palpable discord is not far behind. It may even be written in the stars.
So, let’s see where we stand. Poll time!
