Our large, slick-dribbling midfield son is slowly stepping up the intensity of his training.
Last we saw him he was in the gym doing balance and strength exercises to rebuild the area around his ruptured Achilles. Today's Instragram story features him out of the gym and onto a pitch.

Albeit he’s alone with some cones and a ball, it’s still good to see him on a pitch and running again. He’s still likely a couple months away (“more than weeks”), but even then — as we’ve seen with Callum Hudson-Odoi — there will be an adjustment period, soreness, nicks, kicks and bruises to play through, as well as the slow process of relearning what your body can and can’t do yet.
But never mind all that. We’ve been woeful and completely devoid of any semblance of good news so it’s important to enjoy any crumb we can find.
And, to be fair, Ruben looking closer to returning is more than just any crumb. We’re often missed a creative spark when our wingers can’t get it done and Mount’s pressing doesn’t gift a high-quality chance. At the very least, a recovered Ruben will provide depth and a new skillset. Under the best case scenario, he returns with the goal-scoring form he was in before the injury (unlikely, but let me dream).
Keep progressing, Ruben!
