Chelsea announced a much anticipated contract extension yesterday. Unfortunately for Willian, it was not his. So he continues to wait. Patiently ... ish? Patiently-ish? That’s not a word.
Here are some words from Willian instead, many of which will be familiar by now.
“I have stated several times my wish is to stay at Chelsea. I like the club very much, I feel very welcomed here, as well as my family, and we love living in London.
“However, I’m in the middle of the season and I try not to think about it so as not to lose focus on the field. My agent and the club are talking and I hope we can have some good news soon.
“In transfer windows it is normal to have proposals and speculation, especially for players who are in the end of contract. But my focus is 100% on Chelsea and the season.”

Presumably, as before, the hang-up regarding his contract continues to be the length, with Chelsea likely only offering a single year (as we do for all players over 30 not named David Luiz) and Willian wanting more.
But if he truly wants to stay so badly (so sorry, Barcelona, Juventus, or whoever else), and Chelsea are listening to Lampard who keeps singing Willian’s praises and importance, surely an agreement at some sort of middle ground can be found.
So we wait patiently-ish alongside Willian.
