Not much time to rest at all for Chelsea with a quick turnaround from Wednesday night at the Mestalla in Valencia, to Saturday afternoon at the Bridge against West Ham United, a game that is sure to be charged with plenty of rivalry and shared connections.
The biggest connection will be obviously the new head coach, but Frank Lampard’s task in picking the team will not have been made any easier by Wednesday night’s events. Tammy Abraham’s hip injury will likely keep him out of the contest — though we don’t have official confirmation of the injury he picked on the stroke of half-time — and the same could be the case for Callum Hudson-Odoi, who’s dealing with a hamstring problem. Lampard was hopeful to have Hudson-Odoi back this weekend, but it’s unclear how realistic that hope might have actually been.
Antonio Rüdiger is probabaly still working on his match fitness, while Ross Barkley appears to be permanently in the dog house — though that doesn’t actually prevent him from being a lineup choice.
