In the 89th minute of today’s fixture against Watford, Jorginho was booked for time wasting. That yellow card now brings his season’s tally to five, which means he is now automatically suspended for Chelsea’s next Premier League fixture on November 9th against Crystal palace.
Some may not like to see the ‘dark arts’ in the game (or may not like to admit it), but Jorginho was ruled by match day referee Anthony Taylor for delaying the game far too long.
It will be up for debate whether or not Jorginho intentionally meant to be booked for time wasting. Perhaps a tactical yellow was in mind purely for the purpose of seeing out the nervy finish of the 2-1 victory in Vicarage Road. Jorginho may have also known before the match the circumstances of his aggregate yellow card tally and had his eyes set on the upcoming Manchester City fixture.
Regardless of intent, Jorginho’s next match for the club will come after the upcoming November FIFA international break against Manchester City at the Etihad on November 23rd.
Chelsea’s midfield depth is still depleted by injury, with N’Golo Kanté and Ross Barkley reportedly close to return. Frank Lampard will have some big decisions to make on how to set up his midfield next weekend when Chelsea welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge.
