‘Batsman x Captain America’: Batshuayi pays tribute to Pulisic after Southampton goal

Keeping it one-hundred

Michy Batshuayi scored his first Premier League goal for Chelsea in almost two years last night, putting the icing on the cake in the Blues’ 4-1 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s. He had been on the pitch for less than five minutes before he slotted the ball between the goalkeeper’s legs for Chelsea’s fourth goal on the night. It was the sort of clinical finishing that we’ve come to associate with him, giving him 22 goals now in 59 Chelsea appearances, despite averaging just 30 minutes per appearance — 86 minutes per goal, or roughly a goal-per-game in old maths.

After the goal, we also got a taste anew of the other thing Michy’s most known for, social media excellence as he paid tribute to his partner in crime, Christian Pulisic, who provided the rather wonderful link-up and assist.

Bat(s)man and Captain America would be the biggest cross-over event in comic book and especially motion picture history, as unlikely as it ever would be to actually happen (DC and Marvel don’t play nice). But perhaps Frank Lampard will be more keen to utilize both players going forward — they already have a good understanding from when they were both at Borussia Dortmund — as the team continue to navigate treacherous waters in three concurrent competitions.
