90+3min: FULL TIME. CHELSEA WIN!

90min: 3 minutes added on.

89min: GOALLL!!! MICCCCHHHY! Pulisic and Batshuayi combine for a lovely goal to make sure of all three points. 4-1, CHELSEA!!!

84min: Batshuayi on for Abraham in the final change of the game.

83min: Kovacic plays himself into trouble, but Chelsea recover well.

80min: Pulisic and Kovacic replace Hudson-Odoi and Mount as Chelsea switch to a 4-3-3. Southampton respond with Che Adams and Boufal as they look to make a late attacking push.

79min: Tomori and Zouma get in each other’s way on a clearance and Southampton can come again, with Ward-Prowse. He plays in a cross from deep, which finds Ings, but his header does not trouble Kepa.

77min: Kanté turns in midfield and drives forward, finding Mount, who in turn plays wide to Hudson-Odoi. But he can’t find either the shot or the pass back and Southampton win a goal kick.

75min: Yoshida on target from 30 yards, but Kepa collects easily.

73min: Hudson-Odoi down after getting caught by Ward-Prowse’s follow through on a clearing tackle. He receives a bit of treatment as Southampton make a change, with Obafemi replacing Long.

71min: Alonso finds Hudson-Odoi in space and he wins a corner, which is worked to Willian for a shot from the edge of the area. Blocked, but Chelsea maintain possession.

70min: Good work from Tammy to hold up the ball and win a throw by the corner flag, from which we play around to retain possession.

68min: Good play on the right flank leads to Willian breaking beyond his man and looking for a cutback to Abraham, but Ward-Prowse makes a good defensive play to block it. At the other end, Tomori stays quick and strong to stop a counter, which eventually leads to an Alonso cross from the left, which misses the goalkeeper but only Yoshida’s on hand, and he clears.

66min: Chelsea win a corner, but can’t quite create any danger from it. We do retain possession however.

65min: Zouma’s called for a foul as he closes down and Southampton put in a long ball that Zouma heads clear. Kanté wins a second ball in midfield and plays in Hudson-Odoi down the right flank. CHO cuts inside two and takes aim, but is blocked by a random leg.

63min: Alonso and Kepa contrive to gift possession back to Southampton, but they do the same back to Kepa.

60min: Mount and Hudson-Odoi combine to play out and then hold up the ball, eventually finding Abraham for a side-footed effort from the top of the area. Gunn’s down quickly to make the save.

58min: Kanté barges Redmond off the ball, shoulder-to-shoulder, but it’s called a foul for some reason, 20-25 yards out, central. Ward-Prowse is allowed to place the ball down after the wall is set, but still puts it over the bar.

56min: The two teams trade fouls in midfield as the game enters a slightly choppy period.

54min: Willian’s fouled by two from the back at the same time, but neither gets a card.

52min: A series of throw-ins on the left side leads to a half-chance for Ings, then a skewed cross from Long for Southampton. Chelsea defending in numbers.

49min: Willian drives through the midfield, finding Hudson-Odoi, but he can’t find the finish past Gunn, who had stuck out a trailing leg to divert the shot wide. Big chance, big miss, big save.

47min: Alonso’s forced back but Kepa’s clearance is straight out of bounds to give Southampton a throw in a good area. Valery again jinks past at least three Chelsea players, but gets his cross all wrong.

HALF-TIME: No changes for either side as Southampton restart the match. Need a bit more solid effort defensively from the Blues in this half and it should be an easy three points.

45+2min: And it’s half-time after a goal-filled first-half, with Chelsea taking a two-goal lead into the dressing room.

45+1min: Tomori has a headrush and gives the ball away to Danny Ings, who beats the goalkeeper but Jorginho’s on hand to block the shot and clear. Letoff for Chelsea.

45min: Chelsea pressing high in the closing stages of the half, and win a throw near the left corner flag. But Southampton manage to close down as Chelsea try to drive the box, and clear. 2 minutes added on.

41min: Willian wins another free kick, but Mount’s delivery is less good this time and is headed clear at the far post.

40min: GOAL!!!! KANTÉ!!!! Jorginho gets Chelsea going forward with a long ball up to Alonso. He passes central to Kante, who’s in acres of space. He takes a touch, shoots, finding the necessary deflection to take it past the goalkeeper. 3-1, CHELSEA!!

39min: Tomori, then Jorginho get caught in possession in midfield, but Chelsea, led by Willian recover well enough. Redmond still gets to drive into the box, but is crowded out and Kepa collects.

38min: Willian wins a foul wide right. Mount swings it in with no spin, but Southampton scramble it away before a Chelsea foot could get to it.

36min: Southampton’s latest corner comes from the right and it’s only half-cleared. A pass back in finds Bertrand, who turns and shoots but Zouma puts in a crucial block.

32min: The hosts come again and Redmond’s in, but fairly wide, and can only find the side-netting. At the other end, Abraham’s down after getting a knee from Bednarek into the back of his knee and then landing awkwardly.

30min: GOAL! Southampton. Valery beats five on the right side somehow to put a low ball into the six-yard box. Ings then somehow beats Zouma to it, and his tame shot then somehow rolls into the back of the net. Not quite sure how that all worked, but it’s a goal and no clean sheet and Southampton are back in it, 2-1. It might even be an own goal from Kurt Zouma.

28min: Chelsea pour forward again and Alonso crosses, which is missed by Azpilicueta on the far post. Southampton give it away immediately however, and Abraham’s in! He squares for Mount, but he gets his shot all wrong and well wide of the target. Should’ve been Chelsea’s third.

27min: Mount tries his luck from the top of the area this time after Hudson-Odoi plays in from the left, but he misses the target this time.

25min: GOALLL!!!! MASON MOUNT!!! The move starts with Alonso winning a clearing header from Gunn, then Chelsea pressing high to win the second ball. Jorginho finds Willian, who plays through to Mount making the run beyond the striker and into the area. He takes a touch and finishes powerfully. 2-0, CHELSEA!!!

23min: Poor clearance from Kepa has Redmond looking for an opportunity to shoot, but Alonso stands tall and wins the ball 1-v-1.

17min: GOALL!!!!! ABRAHAM!!!! WHAT A FINISH FROM ABRAHAM! Hudson-Odoi with a long ball over the top, Abraham tussles with Yoshida as Gunn comes out, an Abraham gets to it first to chip over the keeper and into the net before Yoshida could clear! Brilliant!!! 1-0, CHELSEA!!!

13min: Long this time on the end of an (inadvertent) sliding challenge from Kanté, who had lost his footing. Long stays down for a minute, but is just fine to continue.

12min: Long fouls Azpilicueta near the corner flag, but neither the referee nor the linesman, who’s standing right there calls it. Jorginho’s then called for a strong sliding challenge on Long, which earns him a yellow card.

11min: Chelsea play through the press left to right, and Azpilicueta finds Hudson-Odoi breaking beyond the defenders with a great long pass. CHO passes back to Abraham in the center, he shakes his man and shoots from 20, but Gunn’s down to make the save.

9min: Willian takes a knock on his foot from Bertrand as Chelsea look to play it around and up the wings. Southampton have made the more energetic start to the game.

6min: Southampton come again and Long forces another corner. Ward-Prowse goes for a pass across the top of the box instead of just whipping it in, but none of his teammates read it and Alonso can run it out and win a throw in Southampton’s side of the pitch.

5min: Ward-Prowse takes an excellent corner, but Zouma heads clear and Hojbjerg’s follow-up long shot is well over the bar.

4min: A miscue from Tomori with an attempted cross-field pass to Azpilicueta gifts a corner to Southampton.

3min: Mount seems to have come up favoring his previously injured ankle after a layoff, but he’s soldiering on for now.

KICK-OFF: Chelsea in all blue (including socks!), Southampton in red and white stripes with black shorts. Chelsea get the match underway, but Southampton win it almost immediately with the high press and eventually work a shot for Redmond from range, which flies over the bar.

Chelsea could finish the day in the top four with a win and Arsenal dropping points against Bournemouth. Either way, a win against Southampton would be a most welcome way to head into the two-week international break.
