90+4min: FULL TIME. Chelsea win!
90+3min: Surely now we’re seeing this out.
90min: 4 minutes added on, after Burnley waste a corner.
89min: And then another Burnley goal, another long shot, this time deflected off Tomori. McNeil with the striker. 4-2.
86min: Jay Rodriguez scores a wondergoal out of nowhere. Wow. 4-1.
84min: Chelsea playing out the remaining time with relative ease.
79min: Mount again drives forward, playing wide to Hudson-Odoi. He cuts inside then outside, as the boos rain down, then puts in a decent cross that just eludes Giroud’s outstretched foot.
76min: Hudson-Odoi plays a 1-2 with Mount and goes for the return ball in the area. He cuts inside two and appears to be hacked or pushed down, or both. Oliver gives a penalty ... but VAR says it’s a dive. Clear and obvious? Unlikely. CHO gets the yellow.
74min: Kovacic dances through midfield, finding Hudson-Odoi wide left. He cuts inside but is hacked down just outside the area. Free kick in a decent shooting position, but Mount hits a head in the wall.
73min: The corner is played short, and eventually James goes for a piledriver. Blocked for antoher corner, which Mount takes. This time it’s Hudson-Odoi who gets to shoot, but Pope’s down to collect.
72min: Mount on the charge again, this time playing wide to Willian. He takes on his man and tries a cutback from the baseline, but it’s blocked for a corner. Hudson-Odoi replaces Willian before that can be taken.
70min: Mount drives at the backline, and goes for glory from 25 yards, ignoring the wide open Pulisic run on the right. The shot is blocked. Even at 4-0, that’s a bit silly. Chelsea retain possession however.
69min: Giroud gets some minutes, replacing Abraham at center forward.
68min: Pulisic drives in from the right side, then goes baseline before chipping in a cross towards the far post. It floats over the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper, but Abraham can’t quite get to it.
67min: Pieters into the book for hacking down James wide right, level with the penalty spot. Mount swings in the free kick, but it’s past everyone at the far post. Willian recovers the ball and creates his own shot, which is blocked.
64min: James straight into the action with two excellent blocks on Burnley chances inside the penalty area.
63min: Reece James on for Alonso; Vydra on for Barnes. James goes to right back, Azpi to left.
62min: Still a game to play meanwhile. Tomori misses his header on a long ball but recovers to block the shot from Rodriguez with a rather stupendous tackle.
58min: GOALLLL!!! WILLIAN!!! Simple as you like, as Abraham leads the Chelsea attack, playing wide to Willian. He takes on Pieters, makes one move and shoots, straight into the far corner. 4-0, CHELSEA!
56min: GOALLLLLLL PULISIICCCC HAT TRICKKKKK! Mount’s first corner is blocked straight back to him. He hits it in again, and this time Pulisic’s there to head/shoulder it into the back of the net!!! That’s hit hat-trick! WOW. 3-0, CHELSEA!!
55min: Willian wins the ball in midfield and gets Chelsea going forward on the left through Mount and Pulisic. They work it wider to Alonso, whose cross is blocked for a corner.
54min: Chelsea counter lead by Pulisic, but his pass for Abraham is too hard and it goes all the way through for a goal kick.
53min: Pulisic pinches the ball off Hendrick, but checks back and Chelsea hold possession for a bit. But a miscontrol from Willian creates a Burnley counter, which he can’t stop despite dragging back his man. Kovacic and Tomori eventually cover. Willian gets a yellow for his troubles at the next break in play.
51min: Still all Burnley as they work the right side. Jay Rodriguez gets space to shoot, but Kepa’s there to make the save and hold on.
49min: Burnley keeping the pressure on, but Mount gets a brief moment and almost picks out Abraham on the counter. The ball is just underhit, and the defense can cut it out. At the other end, Barnes misses a tough chance, as he tries to volley first-time on the spin after breaking the line with a good run.
47min: A cross from the left sees Zouma’s attempted clearance hit Kepa square in the chest and go out for a corner. Burnley can’t make that count, but they’ve definitely started the half the more aggressive and sharp of the two sides.
46min: Chelsea restart the game; no changes for either side.
HALF-TIME: And that’s practically the last action of the half. Christian Pulisic’s Chelsea lead 2-0!
45min: GOALLLLLL PULISICCCCCC! Willian cuts out a ball in midfield. It falls to Pulisic, who drives directly at the defense. He has numbers, but goes at it alone, beating Tarkowski and taking a right-footed shot this time. Mee gets a partial block, but only manages to deflect it inside of the near post. 2-0, CHELSEA!!!
43min: Chelsea continue to probe. Pulisic switches to the right, where Willian goes for the spectacular first-time volley. He makes good contact and is on target, but no trouble for the goalkeeper who catches at his near post.
42min: A bit of possession from Chelsea eventually sees Mount combine with Azpilicueta, then put a cutback in from the byline looking for Abraham. Burnley clear just ahead of him however.
39min: Pulisic drives at the defense again, then play square to Abraham, who shapes to shoot and tries to pick out the low corner. The curler goes wide; goalkeeper probably had it covered anyway.
38min: Chelsea play the corner short and work the ball around for a bit, before Alonso has a cross that is just a bit too high for Pulisic and he can only flick it on. Chelsea retain possession however.
37min: Kovacic drives forward, finding Abraham, who turns and plays wide to Pulisic, this time on the right. A good cross is headed clear for a corner by Lowton, just ahead of Alonso.
36min: Chelsea come again on the left, and this time it’s Alonso putting a cross in. Burnley make a mess of the clearance and Pulisic has a snap-shot. It’s on target, but hits a stray leg. Unlucky!
35min: Mount turns upfield and drives into the final third, playing wide to Pulisic on the left. He cuts inside and looks for a 1-2 with Abraham, but the angle is not right and Burnley clear.
34min: Burnley come out with possession from a bit of midfield pinball, but Barnes’s eventual shot from 20 yards is high, wide, and not so handsome.
32min: This time Mount’s called for a foul. Burnley win this aerial ball as well, but Mee’s called for an offside.
30min: Barnes wins a foul off Tomori, which Burnley work expertly, finding a man on the far post who heads back across. Somehow, Barnes fails to finish however.
28min: Pope with the big save now, as Pulisic beats Lowton with a touch and takes an early shot, in a move started by Willian’s crossfield switch.
25min: HUGE SAVE KEPA. Cork’s cross is headed clear by Zouma, but it falls to Pieters who takes a first-time shot that deflects off Azpilicueta. Kepa, already going one way, sticks out a hand to block it.
23min: Meanwhile Burnley win a corner. Another great take from McNeil, finding Tarkowski on the far post, who heads back across, but fortunately Barnes can’t do much with it and it bounces off his head for Zouma to hack clear.
21min: GOALLLLLL!! PULLLLLISICCCCCCC! Pulisic pinches the ball off Lowton and drives to goal. He slows down, beats Tarkowski with a stepover, and finishes with his left foot. 1-0, CHELSEA!!!
20min: Pulisic bounds forward on the left, but his cutback doesn’t find Willian. McNeil goes for another run on the counter, but Azpilicueta shepherds him out of bounds on the cover.
19min: Kepa’s goal kick is straight to a Burnley head at midfield, and they quickly turn upfield through McNeil. His cross/shot is easily caught by Kepa however.
16min: Chelsea win the ball in midfield and turn to attack through Mount, who plays wide to Willian. He tries and early low cross for Abraham, but it’s cut out. Azpilicueta gets a forearm shiver from Barnes in the ensuing 50-50. No call.
14min: Pulisic leads the charge through the middle, plays in Mount just before getting wiped out by a sliding tackle. Mount takes a touch, but gets his shot blocked.
13min: McNeil puts it into the six-yard box, where Zouma rises majestically and heads out for another corner. This time it’s Lowton with the inswinger, but it’s well overhit and goes out for a goal kick. Plenty of pushing and shoving going on the area, much to the players’ and the crowd’s displeasure.
12min: Burnley on the front foot, working the channels and looking for crosses. Chelsea holding strong so far, but the home side have a corner.
8min: Zouma runs wide to cover a long ball, but whiffs on his clearance and instead goes tumbling into the advertising hoardings. Gets a bit of treatment for an apparent head injury, but seems okay to continue. The locals boo him because people are a-holes.
7min: A deep Burnley free kick is dealt with at the second time of asking, with Barnes falling to the ground in a half-hearted penalty appeal.
6min: Mount, Alonso, Willian, Pulisic operating on the left, trying to create as Burnley drop deep and defend. Ball eventually has to be worked back to the midfield line.
5min: Chelsea build on the left, then switch right through Kovacic. Willian tries his luck from distance, with his left. Not close.
2min: A couple tentative forays forward from either side, then Mount gets called for a foul in the attacking third. Great atmosphere at Turf Moor.
KICK-OFF: Chelsea, in the away all whites and blue socks, Burnley in Claret shirts, white shorts and socks, and we’re ready to go. The home side get us started.
