Chelsea continue their Champions League campaign with a tough trip away to Ajax. After a mixed start to the group stage, the Blues could really need at least a draw here and it’ll be interesting to see how Frank Lampard sets up his team. Could this be another opportunity for three at the back?
THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE
The WAGNH community has certainly established a favourite formation during these times of injuries as the 4-2-3-1 wins once again, fending off competition from the 4-3-3 (34%) and 5-4-1 (21%)
With Emerson returning, one immediately noticed that the competition at left-back is back on. Marcos Alonso nevertheless received nearly more than double the votes for now, though. Otherwise, the back line chose itself as Reece James (41%) was the only other defender to put up a fight.
Mateo Kovačić’s mystery absence from the form meant that a now ruled-out N’golo Kanté pipped Ross Barkley (25%) to a starting spot. However, the French international will miss the game and you’d expect that the community would otherwise have chosen the Croatian midfielder.
Tammy Abraham continues to dominate the likes of Olivier Giroud (14%) and Michy Batshuayi (8%) even in the Champions League as he left the duo on the bench no chance. Just behind him, the established trio of Mason Mount, Willian, and Callum Hudson-Odoi were favoured over Christian Pulisic (54%) and Pedro (9%), possibly due to the magnitude of the tie.
4-2-3-1 (42%)
Arrizabalaga (98%) | Alonso (65%), Tomori (98%), Zouma (94%), Azpilicueta (83%) | Jorginho (98%), Kanté (30%) | Hudson-Odoi (89%), Mount (74%), Willian (73%) | Abraham (80%)
MY PREFERRED LINEUP
I can only agree with each and every choice made by the community, though I replaced a still recovering Kanté with Kovačić. Otherwise, this is definitely the best choice lineup against Ajax as there’s very little point in rushing back both Emerson and Antonio Rüdiger.
4-3-3/4-2-3-1
Arrizabalaga | Alonso, Tomori, Zouma, Azpilicueta | Kovačić, Jorginho, Mount | Hudson-Odoi, Abraham, Willian
COME ON, YOU BLUES!!!
