UEFA ban Ajax fans for match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

No tickets for you!

UEFA Champions League”Valencia CF v Ajax Amsterdam”
A generic picture of Ajax fans away at Valencia

Ajax Amsterdam have been “banned from selling tickets to their away supporters for their next UEFA competition match” due to “acts of damages and crowd disturbances” by said away fans during their match against Valencia at the Mestalla on October 2.

Ajax’s next European away match just happens to be at Stamford Bridge, which means that they will (theoretically) have no supporters in the stands (or at least not in the designated away section) for the match on November 5. The two teams will play before then of course, on this coming Wednesday, when Chelsea travel to Amsterdam. Presumably this decision will only inspire the home crowd even more.

Ajax could yet appeal against UEFA’s decision, which includes €68k in fines, reparations to Valencia for damage caused, as well as a suspended sentence of one additional away match ticket ban, but with Ajax already carrying a suspended disciplinary measure for similar actions by their traveling fans last November againt Benfica, it’s unlikely any appeal would be successful.

It’s unclear if the away section will be left open or if Chelsea will get to open it up to general sale maybe? It’s probably the former.
