Six Premier League sides fell in the third round of the FA Cup (including the league leaders Liverpool!) in what was overall a fairly upset-heavy round in the world’s oldest knockout competition where one (1) team from non-league (tier 5), Barnet, remain still alive.
Chelsea, who beat Championship side Nottingham Forest with relative ease avoided all of the remaining Premier League sides as well as all a trip to a lower league stadium in a classic upset scenario, to face either Sheffield Wednesday (another Championship side) or Luton Town from League One (third tier) at Stamford Bridge. Those two sides will play next week in Luton for a replay of this weekend’s 0-0 at Hillsborough.
The fourth round of the FA Cup will be conducted the weekend of January 26. The big Arsenal vs. Manchester United derby will surely be one of the games picked for television.
