What may have started as the unlikeliest rumour of deadline day could be standing on an actual solid basis. According to Brazilian outlet UOL Esporte, Willian’s staff have been in Paris since yesterday in anticipation of a deal being struck between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain for Willian’s sale to the French club.

Their representatives believe that a €40 million offer from PSG would be enough to ease Chelsea into the idea of letting Willian go this winter, especially in light of one-and-a-half year left in his current contract. Previous offers, made by Barcelona and Chinese clubs, were all rebuffed by the Blues.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will change their stance on Willian just a few weeks after denying a £50 million package from Barcelona that included money plus Brazilian counterpart Malcom. But then, today is deadline day and we cannot count these happenings completely out. At least not when PSG, and their penchant for defying UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rulings, are involved.
