Another injury worry for Chelsea as Willian leaves the pitch early against Southampton

The injuries just keep piling up

After a hard tackle by Southampton centre-back Maya Yoshida, Chelsea attacker Willian left the pitch in today’s game against the Saints 37 minutes into the match while complaining about pain in his left calf muscle.

Willian can very well be Chelsea’s fourth attacker sidelined by injury in the months of scheduling madness that is English football during the months of December and February, especially for teams as big as Chelsea who seek to maintain themselves alive in title chases on multiple fronts.

Pedro, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Olivier Giroud were out of today’s squad due to injury. And midfielder Mateo Kovacic was also out of the fray, although there have been no official words as to whether that was down to more fitness issues or just an option by coach Maurizio Sarri.

All in all, it is just a very frustrating affair especially with key cup games coming up this weekend and next Tuesday. Hopefully by then we will have at least a few of these players available, even if not fully fit, to make up the numbers in our squad.
