Chelsea started the day well, controlling play and created a few decent chances, but Liverpool eventually grew into the game and made their home advantage count in the second half. Chelsea had grown steadily sloppier as the game went on, and after Fabregas and Azpilicueta contrived to give the ball away, Liverpool pounced through Mane and an acrobatic Sturridge effort on the rebound.
Chelsea huffed and puffed but could not find the equalizer. And it looked like our League Cup journey would end as son as it had begun, in the third round, for the first time since 2010-11.
But then Emerson found an unlikely equalizer from a free kick and Hazard won it with a most special goal! Two goals in the space of four minutes inside the final ten minutes.
Wow!
KTBFFH.
- Both managers made eight changes to their starting lineups from the weekend, which for Chelsea meant a first appearance for Emerson this season and first starts for Cahill and Moses.
- Sarri blinked first, and put on Hazard for Willian before the hour-mark, just before Liverpool scored. Kante for Kovacic followed not much later as Sarri looked to spark the team into an equalizer.
- David Luiz for Christensen completed the set of substitutions as the youngster appeared to strain something as he stretched for an interception.
- Next up: Liverpool again, this time at home, this time in the league
- Carefree.
