West Ham 0-0 Chelsea, Premier League: Post-match reaction

Chelsea huffed and puffed and passed West Ham to death, but could not find a breakthrough and were perhaps lucky to even collect a point after Andriy Yarmolenko missed a wide open header in the last ten minutes. Arrizabalaga also made a tremendous save on Antonio in the first half.

A full-strength Chelsea lineup racked up the possession numbers (Jorginho with 189 touches alone), but proved once again that without the proper tempo and the proper finishing, those numbers will mean very little.

With the draw, Chelsea remain third in the table, level on points with Manchester City and two behind still perfect Liverpool.

  • Back to the usual starters after a half-rotation midweek, with Willian for the injured Pedro the only change from last weekend.
  • Like-for-like changes at striker (Morata for Giroud) and third midfielder (Barkley for Kovačić), plus an injury-enforced sub at the back (Cahill for Rüdiger).
  • Rüdiger’s injury looked like it could be a groin, which could be a big concern. Rudi’s been our best center back, by some distance.
  • Next up: Liverpool in the League Cup third round on Wednesday (then Liverpool in the Premier League next weekend).
