Less than a week after turning 18 and barely a year after joining the Blues, Ethan Ampadu has put pen to paper today on a new five-year Chelsea contract. The Wales international who turned heads by dominating the midfield against Republic of Ireland in the Nations League a couple weeks ago, is now signed through 2023.

Chelsea’s official Twitter account decided to take this opportunity to get people to download their official app instead of just straight-up reveling the news, but here’s the official announcement on the website.

Ampadu has yet to play for the first-team this season, but with the twice-weekly slate of matches coming up, he’s sure to add to the seven appearances he’s already collected last season.

“I’m really proud and happy. I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen.”

Indeed.

“Ethan has shown great potential and unbelievable maturity since arriving at Chelsea a year ago. In this short time he convinced a lot of people with his exceptional quality and mentality and we look forward to watching him develop into a key player for the club over the coming years.”

So say we all.

Congrats, Ethan!
