John Terry doesn’t sound any more decided about his future now than he did before so publicly toying with Spartak Moscow last weekend.
After turning down an offer to earn over €1.9m for nine month’s work, he sounds like he’s happy being a homebody at his Surrey home and occasionally checking in at Cobham.
Who can blame the man for enjoying his first extended time off in almost a quarter-century?
“Good seven weeks with the family, which is the first time in 22 years. Some real quality time. Just really important to switch off after my career and reflect on things.”
Family was the reason he ultimately reneged on a proposed deal with the Russian side — a quick look at his Instagram account shows how proud he is of his children.
Not that he’s given up on the idea of playing. He’s ready to go if the right offer comes. In the meantime, he checks in at Cobham and helps out with the young players, something he enjoyed doing during his entire 22 years playing for Chelsea and something that he needs to do as part of his coaching qualifications, too.
It is worth noting that John Terry has been informally involved at Cobham for a while, just like Frank Lampard was. Sometimes coming in for two days a week, he was coming in while at Villa too. #CFC

“I was training every day. I wanted to stay fit in case something came along. I’m still waiting. Undecided, but enjoying my time to really concentrate on my badges. It’s what I really want to do.”
“Still undecided what I’m doing next. My end game is to be a manager and that’s what I’m working towards with the younger boys here.”
Nobody’s rushing him. And we can presume that he’s under no financial pressure. Maurizio Sarri says the door’s open.
“I am very open with him, because he’s the history of the club. He has won everything with the club, so it’s up to him.
”If he wants to play for another season I think it’s right he tries to play. If he wants to help us, I’m very, very happy.”
So we wait — along with Terry, apparently — to see what happens next.
