Chelsea won’t be very good for at least 2-3 months, warns Sarri

Trying to keep expectations as low as possible

Chelsea remain very much a work in progress as preseason ends and the real season begins on Saturday. It would be perhaps foolish to expect otherwise, given the condensed and abbreviated off-season and the fact that the likes of Hazard and Kante have only been back for two days, but time and the football season waits for no one. Ready or not, here it comes, and you can’t hide.

“I’m very happy and at last I can work with all my players for the first time [together] tomorrow. We have only three days to prepare for the next match and it will be very important for us.

“I think we have to work, but we started to work [together] two days ago. Potentially, in two or three months, we can become a very good team.”

Trouble is, in 2-3 months, the season could already be over for all practical purposes. Chelsea and Sarri will need results long before then, starting with Saturday’s trip to Huddersfield on Matchday 1.

Everybody knows that we’re going to need plenty of patience, but that’s unlikely to actually result in more patience given to the head coach, the players, and the team as a whole.

Good luck to us all.
