Chelsea 0-0(5-4 p/k) Lyon, Friendly: Post-match reaction

Unsurprisingly, a bit of a damp squib affair tonight at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea and Lyon played out a semi-entertaining 0-0 draw.

Lyon played ostensibly the more first-choice starting lineup, but there was not much difference between the two sides in terms of quality or chance creation. Chelsea improved slowly as the game wore on, especially after some of the expected starters arrived on the scene.

Fully rotated lineup from Sarri: Bulka | Emerson, Ampadu, Christensen, Zappacosta | RLC, Drinkwater, Bakayoko | Moses, Abraham, Willian. Drinkwater in the Jorginho role.

Few moments of quality in attack, mainly from Willian, RLC (hit the post), and Zappacosta.

Switch of the midfield trio on 60min with Kanté, Jorginho, Barkley coming on as a unit. Jorginho deepest, Kanté box-to-box, Barkley attacking. Much better than the starting three, in general. Barkley clearly looking to impress and Kanté making an impact in his new position.

Switch of the attacking trio on 68min with Hazard, Giroud, Piazon coming on as a unit. Interesting to see Piazon get minutes in this one, but showing plenty of effort and motivation.

Switch off the back four on 74min with Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Cahill, Alonso coming on as a unit. Some decent individual defensive performances among the starters, with Ampadu brave and strong as usual (and a bit lucky), Christensen cool calm and collected, and Zappacosta good as any full back so far in preseason at both ends (that's probably a bit concerning). Emerson anonymous.

Rob Green also makes debut; Bulka pretty good once again. A collector's item as this probably will be Green's only action of the season.

Hazard kept armband even when Cahill came on. Willian started as Captain. Plenty of sharpness lacking in both.

Bertrand Traore gets to play 85 minutes against his old club. Decent. A bit selfish.

That Chelsea have only scored 3 goals in 5 preseason games is highly concerning.

Lyon penalties: Ferri (good), Marcelo (good), Gueidi (good), Tete (good), Pape Diop (saved!)

Chelsea penalties: Jorginho (good), Barkley (good), Alonso (good), Azpilicueta (good), Hazard (good)
